Psalm 50:7-15

New International Version

⁷“Listen, my people, and I will speak;
    I will testify^(A) against you, Israel:
    I am God, your God.^(B)
⁸I bring no charges^(C) against you concerning your sacrifices
    or concerning your burnt offerings,^(D) which are ever before me.
⁹I have no need of a bull^(E) from your stall
    or of goats^(F) from your pens,^(G)
¹⁰for every animal of the forest^(H) is mine,
    and the cattle on a thousand hills.^(I)
¹¹I know every bird^(J) in the mountains,
    and the insects in the fields^(K) are mine.
¹²If I were hungry I would not tell you,
    for the world^(L) is mine, and all that is in it.^(M)
¹³Do I eat the flesh of bulls
    or drink the blood of goats?

¹⁴“Sacrifice thank offerings^(N) to God,
fulfill your vows^(O) to the Most High,^(P)
¹⁵and call^(Q) on me in the day of trouble;^(R)
I will deliver^(S) you, and you will honor^(T) me.”

Exodus 34:1-9

New International Version

The New Stone Tablets

34 The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones,^(A) and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets,^(B) which you broke.^(C) ²Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai.^(D) Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain. ³No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain;^(E) not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.”

⁴So Moses chiseled^(F) out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands.^(G) ⁵Then the Lord came down in the cloud^(H) and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord.^(I) ⁶And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate^(J) and gracious God, slow to anger,^(K) abounding in love^(L) and faithfulness,^(M) ⁷maintaining love to thousands,^(N) and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.^(O) Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished;^(P) he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”^(Q)

⁸Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. ⁹“Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor^(R) in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us.^(S) Although this is a stiff-necked^(T) people, forgive our wickedness and our sin,^(U) and take us as your inheritance.”^(V)

Matthew 9:27-34

New International Version

Jesus Heals the Blind and the Mute

²⁷As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”^(A)

²⁸When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

“Yes, Lord,” they replied.^(B)

²⁹Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”;^(C) ³⁰and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”^(D) ³¹But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.^(E)

³²While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed^(F) and could not talk^(G) was brought to Jesus. ³³And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”^(H)

³⁴But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”^(I)
